Barc Architects
We met Barc Architects founder, Caroline, at one of her most recently completed properties, to discuss this project and their work in general.

As a small and independent business in the property sector, it is always rewarding to meet others of similar ilk. Barc Architects is one of those. Founded by Caroline Shortt in 2012, they have grown to be a renowned and reputable name, focussed on providing high end work with real attention to detail.
Their approach is that “every site and every home is unique, so we never take a one size fits all approach to architecture. We’re always excited to engage with new ideas that clients bring to the table and we respond to challenges with bespoke design solutions.” These are values that resonate with us at Twenty Twenty Property. Personalised service centred around a strong relationship with the client. It was therefore no surprise that, since meeting Caroline back in 2021, we have built a strong working relationship.

We went to meet Caroline at one of her recent projects in Exeter to hear about the process from the initial client brief, through to the stunning finished outcome. “They were looking to lose the dark and cramped feel at the back of the house and create an open and naturally lit entertaining space, with a real connection to the garden.”
The result is a beautiful sand coloured brick extension that sits effortlessly in the surrounding leafy landscape. Inside is an open kitchen, dining and living space, with natural light pouring in through rooflights, bi-fold doors and windows. The light-coloured woodwork throughout adds to this, even on a gloomy day in what was once the darkest part of the house.
