Exeter Christmas Markets

It’s Christmas market time once again in Exeter’s city centre and we went down on its opening day to get a taste of the festivities!

Since 2012, the cathedral green in Exeter has been home to the city’s Christmas markets. Each year it grows in popularity and size and provides a great day out, attracting locals and many a tourist, all in the shadows of one of the country’s most beautiful buildings. We headed down as it opened its doors on Friday, to explore what local businesses have taken temporary residence in the cosy wooden chalets.

“Exeter Cathedral Christmas Market. Festive Spirit, Made in Exeter.”

At the hub of the market sit the many food stalls, with an array of savoury and sweet options to choose from — their delicious aromas battling each other in the crisp winter air. From Nepalese to Nachos, Hog Roast to Hot Dogs, the range of options will ensure you’ll want to make more than one visit over the coming weeks!

The ever busy Cathedral Tavern sits by the food area, providing covered seating to enjoy your chosen bite but also, of course, a mulled drink or two. As the sun sets and the twinkly lights take effect, this is super spot to immerse yourself in the festive spirit. Likewise, the ‘Mulled Tipi’ offers a quieter and cosier option, with open fires and piano sing alongs!

There are over 100 chalets to peruse and, with all sorts of products on offer, it is a fantastic spot to pick up some special Christmas gifts or stock up on those stocking fillers. We thoroughly recommend making your way down to immerse yourself in the seasonal energy and support so many fantastic local businesses.
